Spatial Planning
Our spatial planning projects cover 3 levels: Regional plans, applying to the 13 Greek Regions of the 2nd Tier of local government or parts of them; Urban Structure Plans, referring to Municipalities of the 1st tier of local government, and smaller scale Town Plans, all funded by public authorities.
The Plans’ objectives focus on a balanced development of all sectors of the economy, the improvement of the quality of life of local inhabitants and the protection of areas of ecological, historical or archeological value.
A sequence of several stages is usually undertaken, including a review and evaluation of the existing situation; an assessment of the development prospects of the area, including its relationship with neighbouring areas and the wider environment; and the proposals brought forward by the Plan. This includes an overall land use plan; special requirements for protected areas; a regulations-mechanisms-incentives framework for residential areas; agriculture, industry and tourism development zones; and areas where special restrictions apply. An outline of the necessary actions to implement the Plan is also proposed.
